Tave Dheu-Traditional Albanian Recipe With Beef Liver

Tavë Dheu with beef liver and white cheese is a cuisine of Central Albania. It is a simple recipe to cook. Mainly, we serve it as a hot appetizer at family lunches where the menu is meat-based.
The recipe cooks partly in the pan to give the final cooking in the oven. I prefer to cook the part that belongs to the cooking procedure in the pan first. So, I have it ready to bake in the oven. In this way, I can bake it 15-20 minutes before we sit at the table to serve it hot.

  • 300 g beef liver
  • a medium onion
  • 2 tbsp of tomato sauce
  • 1 cup of white wine
  • 1 tbsp of flour
  • 100 g feta cheese
  • bay leaves
  • 2 tbsp of minced Parmesan cheese
  • salt, pepper
  • oregano

  1. First, we rinse the liver with running water and cut it into small pieces. It is best to cook fresh beef liver and not frozen.
