We find it fresh until late autumn, and with it, we can prepare jams, biscuits, muffins, cakes, very tasty compotes. Also, it is easy to find apples on the market throughout the winter season, but they are not fresh as we can enjoy them in the fall season. In the winter, they most store in the refrigerator rooms.
During the Fall days, the apples ripen well and can be preserved in all ways, marmalade or jam, compote, dried, etc.
In this article, we are showing you how you can prepare it even compote. In this way, you will have it ready to use when you want. All we use fruit compotes in case of any seasonal virus or other diseases.
First, we choose sweet, fresh, preferably organic apples. And, if you have an apple tree in the yard, even better.
You can prepare apple compote with peeled apples or not.
In the picture today, I am demonstrating you with unpeeled apples, but I’m sharing the process with sliced and peeled ones. It is good that the apples are firm and clean. Preferably use small apples to be able to fill the jars as well as possible.
Also, you can try pear or peach compotes, which you still have time to prepare.
Ingredients
- 2 kg of apples
- 400 g sugar
- 1 l of water
- cinnamon stick
- Lemon juice
Directions
- First, we have previously sterilized their jars and lids by passing them into boiling water. Let them drain on a kitchen towel.
- Next, we wash and rinse the apple fruits well. Then peel them, and cut them into slices, cleaning from their middle and seed parts. If you have organic apples, you can even leave the skin.
- We cut them into medium slices and throw them in a bowl of cold water where we have added the juice of half a lemon so that they do not oxidize.
- Meanwhile, we will prepare the syrup by adding water and sugar to a stainless steel pot. Bring to the boil, add a cinnamon stick for flavor, one tablespoon lemon juice, and remove from the heat.
- Then, place the fruit in jars and fill all the spaces well. Add the hot syrup and close the lids well. We turn the vases upside down and leave them to cool.
- Next, we will sterilize the jars in the water bath by putting them in a large pot. So, wrap the jars with kitchen napkins and place them with heads up inside the water. Fill it with enough water to cover and let it boil.
- From the moment of boiling, leave them for 3 minutes and remove them immediately. We turn them upside down to cool or let them cool inside the water. Leave them to cool and preserve them in a cool, dry place.
- After about one month, they will be ready to consume. Also, you can store up to one year from preparation. Once we open the canned apple jar, we store it in the refrigerator for a few days.
