In this article, we want to share our homemade Zuppa Inglese Recipe. It is a delicious dessert originating from Italian cuisine.
It is a dessert eaten with a spoon, and you will learn here how to prepare it in your kitchen in a simple way. The original recipe cooks with a sponge cake base. We can choose to use other ingredients for the Zuppa base. So, we can use the left pieces of cake of the next day or, another choice is to use a Savoiardi biscuits base.
The last one is a quick and tasty solution. We will use it in our today’s recipe as well.

Ingredients
- 1 package of Savoiardi
- 250 g Custard cream
- 200 g of strawberries
- 40 g of chocolate
- Limoncello
For Syrup
- 1/2 glass of water
- 2 tbsp of sugar
- organic Lemon and orange zest
- 1 small glass limoncello
Directions
- As I mention above, we cook the Zuppa base with Savoiardi. The first step is to cook the custard cream.
We prepare the custard cream following our custard cream recipe. Read the full recipe. - We also prepare the syrup to soften the biscuits by pouring water, sugar, and citrus zests into a small pot. Let it boil and remove from the heat. We throw the limoncello and let it cool.
- We continue the work by cleaning the washed strawberries from the stems and cutting them into small pieces.
- Once we have all the ingredients ready, then, we will start assembling the Zuppas. Usually, this dessert serves in cups or serving bowls of one ration. So I chose.
- Pour one tablespoon of custard cream, add the softened biscuits with the syrup. Add strawberries and chopped chocolate. Repeat the action and cover the entire surface with custard cream.
- Decorate it with strawberries on top and place the Zuppa bowls in the fridge for a few hours. It is an ideal dessert for dinner with friends.
