Easy Tres Leches Cake – Trilece In A Simple Recipe

Trileçe is a dessert of the Albanian tradition, which tastes delicious for holidays, weekends, or even in everyday life. The cooking method is simple with a basic sponge cake, which gets softened in a mixture of three types of milk.

We have repeatedly shared with you how to prepare puffed sponge cake properly. The secret for this dessert is the softening ingredients, which must be of high quality and achieve a uniform softening of the sponge cake.

Ingredients

For Sponge cake

  • eggs- 7
  • 7 tbsp of sugar
  • 7 tbsp of flour
  • Grated lemon zest
  • A pinch of salt

For softening

  • 400 ml of condensed milk
  • 500 ml whipping cream
  • 400 ml milk

For the top

  • 300 g caramel sauce

Sponge Cake

So, we will prepare the sponge cake. Also, the eggs should be fresh and at room temperature for the best result.

  • First, we will separate the whites from the yolks and beat them with the help of an electric mixer. Also, add a pinch of salt there, which will help beat the whites better.
  • When we see that the egg whites have started to become foam and increase in volume, we will add the sugar and continue mixing until they have reached a white, shiny foam that stays still.
  • At this point, we will add the yolks and continue mixing. We will see that it will take on a light yellow color, and when they have been well mixed for a few minutes, we will add the sifted flour.
  • At this point, add the flour gradually and mix with a kitchen spatula manually from bottom to top so that the volume does not fall. After the whole flour has been well mixed, we will add the dough to a medium-sized glass or stainless steel pan measuring 35-25 cm, which we have greased and dusted with flour.
  • Next, put the baking tray to bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 25-30 minutes. You will see that it will get a golden color. Also, do the test with a toothpick.
  • Furthermore, the oven should not open for the first 15 minutes because the sponge cake will stop the puffing process.

Softening process

  • After we have baked it, we will take it out and let it cool. Meanwhile, we will prepare the mixture to soften the sponge. Thus, we will mix all kinds of milk.
  • As the sponge cooled, we got it out of the baking tray. Using a skewer or toothpick, we pierce it from both sides so that it absorbs all the liquid.
  • Then, add 1/3 of the milk mixture to the bottom of the baking tray and put the sponge on top. Pour the rest of the milk mixture on top and let it soften. It will absorb the entire liquid.
  • Let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours,  and before serving, pour the caramel over and cover well the top. We cut it into pieces. Ideal for holidays or weekends.
