Ingredients
- 1-maturated coconut
- Water quantity will be equal to twice the weight of the coconut pulp you will be extracting for coconut milk
Tools
- A kitchen shredder, or a grater
- A kitchen blender, or extractor
- A pot
- bowls
- A fine colander and a drainage cloth
- A screwdriver and kitchen hammer for opening the coconut
Directions
Opening the Coconut
- First, we need to open the coconut fruit to take the pulp. The matured coconut coated with thick brown skin, and at one side, there are three closed holes, and we will start from here.
- The first step is to extract the water that the coconut has inside. In this way, we don’t lose it when we open the coconut in two parts. Coconut water has a slightly sweet taste. It uses as a fresh, canned, or bottled juice or drink. Coconut water’s content is 95% water, 4% carbohydrates, and 1% protein and fat. For this, it considers one of the best moisturizing drinks in hot tropical countries.
- We will use a screwdriver or kitchen scissors with a thinner tip to open the three holes that we see on one side of the coconut fruit. In this way, we can extract the coconut water without opening it.
- Drain the water into a container and set it aside to use as desired.
- We will hit the coconut in the middle along its entire perimeter with a kitchen hammer. We hit it until the outer fibers detach, and the inner crust of the shell that wraps it starts to split by dividing the coconut into two parts. We will take the white coconut pulp and use it for our recipe.
Preparation of Coconut Milk
- We weigh the coconut pulp to know how many grams it is, as twice that amount will be the water used to extract the milk.
- Cut the coconut pulp into small pieces with a knife and grind it in your blender. You can also grate it in a hand grater as you do with other vegetables.
- We add the water quantity to a pot to boil. If we have 200 g of coconut pulp, then we will use 400 ml of water.
- Toss the minced coconut pulp in a bowl and toss over the hot water. We will let it rest for a few minutes (5-6 minutes or even more if you want) for the coconut to start releasing its fat into the hot water.
- Once the time passes, we will transfer the whole mixture to a Nutribullet type blender or another type, and we will grind it finely.
- We pass the minced mass in a colander, or rather in a drainage cloth, and we will extract the coconut milk.
We throw it in a glass container, close it, and we can play it in the fridge for 2-3 days. - Consume it as it is or use it in various recipes in the kitchen. Shake well before consumption to mix the coconut fats.
