Ingredients

  • 350-400 ml of natural or greek yogurt
  • 150 g of cottage cheese
  • 100 g of feta cheese
  • 2 tbsp melted butter or olive oil
  • 2- eggs
  • 100 ml of vegetal oil for the phyllo dough
  • salt

Directions

  1. First, we prepare the phyllo dough, and after sitting it for 20-30 minutes, we will separate it in small pieces, and roll it and open the phyllo dough layers. You can read the full recipe here.
  2. Once you finished with rolling, preheat the oven at 200 degrees.
  3. In a deep bowl, we will add the eggs (an egg-yolk keep apart to use in the end), and beat them with a fork. Add the yogurt and mix it well. Add the cottage cheese and the crushed feta cheese. If you will use unsalted cottage cheese, then it needs to add a little salt on the yogurt mixture in other terms, I suggest trying it before adding the salt. Keep in mind that cheese is also salty. Add the melted butter or olive oil if you don’t prefer to use butter.

  4. In a baking pan, add a little oil and grease it in all the internal parts, bottom, and borders. We start to lay the phyllo dough layers separating each of them with vegetal oil (corn, sunflower, etc.). After laying out more than half of them, add the filling mixture in the baking pan, and continue with the rest of the phyllo layers. In the end, you can cut in pieces before baking it. In a bowl, mix the egg yolk with a little milk and cover the top of the burek.
  5. We bake it in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes until it golden brown. Byrek Me Kos- Family Cooking Recipes
  6. We let it cool for a while and cover it to rest soft. Cut in pieces and serve it warm. Byrek Me Kos- Family Cooking Recipes
