How to clean black mussels
To cook mussels, we first clean them. Black mussels are easy to clean. They grow and feed on kelp, which comes out of the mussel in the shape of a small tassel.
It should remove by sliding it towards the most spacious part of the shell. It will detach easily.
Then we will clean them with a dish wire, removing all the impurities in the shell.

Ingredients
- 500 g of spaghetti pasta
- 500 g of black mussels
- 4 ripe tomatoes
- basil leaves and fresh parsley
- garlic
- chilly pepper
- olive oil
- salt, black pepper
Directions
- In a pan, add a little olive oil, one garlic clove, and chili pepper. Leave them to release the aromas and add the cleaned mussels.
- Cover with a lid and let them open for 3-4 minutes. We do not add salt because they have their own. Sometimes they may have more than they should. We do not use unopened mussels after this process cause they are not fresh.
- In another pan, we will prepare the tomato sauce. Add one garlic clove, olive oil, and peeled and diced tomatoes.
- We will cook it for 10 minutes until it makes a sauce. You can also use the ready-made bottled sauce for speed. But since it is tomato season, we use fresh ones.
- We will add the mussels to the saucepan. We can remove some or all of the shells. I like to have them on the plate because it looks more beautiful.
- We will also add the mussel juice to the sauce. Drain it for any dirt.
- Add fresh spices and black pepper. For salt, we try and fix it.
- Meanwhile, boil the spaghetti in boiling salted water and drain it al dente.
- Add them to the sauce and mix for a minute to taste. Add a little of the pasta water to leave the liquid sauce.
- Serve immediately warm and with a pinch of olive oil and fresh basil.
