Limoncello is a liqueur that we can prepare simply at home. All we need is some fresh organic lemons and food alcohol.
This Homemade Limoncello Recipe is a delicious one to enjoy with family and friends.
I prefer most the liqueurs prepared at home, cause they are healthier as we choose the products used in the recipes. Liqueurs are good digestive aids after a heavy meal.
As we highlight in our jam of other processed fruit recipes, we need to use fresh and organic fruits in our recipes. The same goes for the limoncello recipe. We will use fresh, organic, and untreated with chemicals lemons. We clean and rinse the lemons well before starting with the recipe, eliminating small black dots and dirty on their surface.

Ingredients
- 10 fresh, organic with thick zest lemons
- 1l of food alcohol
- 1l of water
- 750 g of sugar
Directions
- We will wash the lemons from dirty on their surface carefully with a clean sponge.
- We will dry them and cut only their yellow zest. The white part of the lemon’s skin will nos use as it makes our drink bitter.
- We will put the yellow zest in an airtight glass container, and we will throw the alcohol on it.
- We will close the glass container well. We keep it like this for ten days away from sunlight and a dry place. We have to shake the container from time to time. In this way, the lemon zest pieces will release their aroma, color, and essence in the alcohol.
- After the ten days passed, we will continue with the preparation of the liqueur.
- In a saucepan, we will add water and sugar. We put it on the fire until the sugar melts and the syrup boils. Let it cool completely.
- Drain the alcohol from the lemon’s zest and add it to the syrup. We mix it well. You will see that it will take on a bright yellow color.
- Drain the mixture once with a fine colander, and put it into washed, dried, and sterilized glass bottles.
- We seal the bottles hermetically and leave them for a few days before tasting.
It is good to put the bottle in the freezer before tasting it and serving it. After lunch, one glass of lemonade will taste great and will also help with digestion.
Bon Appetit!
