Ingredients
- 550 g all-purpose flour
- 300 ml of milk
- 3 tbsp of sugar
- 1-egg
- 2 tbsp lukewarm melted butter
- 1 tsp yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- powder sugar for decorating beignets
- honey, jam, etc to accompany beignets
- 500 ml of corn oil for frying.
Directions
- In a pan, we warm the milk and add the yeast in it to melt it. Add the egg and mix well. Add sugar and 2 tbsp of flour and prepare dough to activate the yeast. Let the dough sit for 20 minutes.
- Add the lukewarm melted butter, salt, and the flour little by little and prepare the beignet dough.
- We let the dough sit and rise for 1-2 hours until it doubles the volume.
- After that, helping by a kitchen roller and a little flour, we roll the dough and open a layer with 1 cm of thickness.
- During this time, we put a pan and oil for frying to heat. We cut the layer into rectangular pieces and fry them immediately. Our beignet will become puffy and with space in the middle, and you can fill them and serve them filled with hazelnut cream, jam, or salted creams if you want.
- Another way to prepare the beignets is to sit the cut pieces to rise one more time. We transfer them in a pan with a baking sheet and let them sit covered with a clean kitchen towel for the other 20 minutes. After that, we fry them in hot oil, and they will result in puffy and soft, and this time will not be empty inside.
- We fry them until golden brown. We serve them sprinkled with powder sugar and accompanied honey. In our family, they liked by kids and adults, that let everything to taste these beignets on a Sunday morning.
