Custard is a sweet culinary made on milk and egg yolk, also known as vanilla pastry cream, creme Anglaise in a thin consistency, and creme patisserie. We like to share today our Best Homemade Custard Recipe. You can prepare custard at home in a simple process, for cooking your favorite pastry recipes.
Ingredients
- 500 ml of milk
- 4-egg-yolks
- 2-tbs cornstarch
- 4-5 tbs sugar
- lemon zest
- vanilla extract
Directions
- In a deep pan, warm the milk, adding the lemon zest to taste, and flavor the milk.
- In a bowl, add the egg yolks, the sugar, and cornstarch and mix well the mixture until sugar start melted to the yolk liquid.
- Remove the lemon zest from the warmed milk, and add the milk little by little to the egg yolks mixture.
- Add all the mixture in the pan, and retransfer the pan in low heat, mixing well until the liquid thickens. Pay attention to this process, and don’t let the liquid to stick to the pan’s bottom, because it can get bitter.
- When the cream starts to thick, add the vanilla extract. Transfer the custard to a glass bowl, covered by a pellicle to not create crusty on the top.
