Baked Sardine Recipe

The sardine is one of the oily sea fishes very healthy to eat, rich in vitamins and minerals, and we can find fresh sardines at a convenient price in the fish market.
Today, we like to share this Baking Sardine Recipe, a combination with potatoes and tomatoes for preparing a light and healthy summer dish. The sardine that we mostly consume and grows in Adriatic and Jones seas is part of blue fish family, rich in vitamins B, B12, calcium, potassium, and omega 3, necessary nutrients for every age. Sardine can cook in a pan, the oven, a grill, smoked, in a pressure cooker to prepare main dishes, appetizers, or first plates. We can prepare a delicious first plate with sardines using it in the pizza, pasta, or salads. It can perfectly be preserved in the can. This baked sardine recipe is simple to prepare.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg fresh sardines
  • 3-4 medium potatoes
  • 7-8 cherry tomatoes, or 1-2 medium tomatoes
  • Salt, pepper, oregano, 2-3 garlic cloves, olive oil

Directions

  1. We clean sardines from their heads, internal parts, and from bones, opening them like a book. To remove the backbone, we keep the sardine with one hand, and with the other hand’s thumb, we try to separate easily the bone from the other part. After that, we grab the bone starting from the head part and pull toward the tail to have the sardine’s fillet.
  2. Peel the potatoes and cut them in thin round slices, and put them in a bowl filled with water to not oxidate.
  3. Cut the cherry tomatoes in half, or in slice if we have other tomatoes.
  4. Preheat the oven at 200 degrees.
  5. Rinse the cut potatoes, drive them, and marinate it with salt, pepper, and oregano. Baked Sardine Recipe- Family Cooking Recipes
  6. Grease a baking dish, cover the bottom with potatoes’ slices, and over them put the sardines and tomatoes.  We can repeat this if we have a small baking dish.  We season sardines with salt, pepper, chopped garlic, oregano, and olive oil.Baked Sardine Recipe- Family Cooking Recipes
  7. Put it to bake at the preheated oven for 35-45 minutes. We serve sardines warm.
